Reverend James Chater, the First Baptist missionary to Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) on the 16th of April 1812 started to preach with the aid of a young Burgher boy named Hendrick Siers. Thus commenced the Baptist Mission in Ceylon. Presently, there are over 30 churches and many mission points.
